GENERAL INFORMATION

 

Latin name: Sepia spp (big size) and Sepiella spp (small size)

Cuttlefish are marine animals of the order Sepiida belonging to the Cephalopoda class.

In Vietnam’s territorial water there are around 25 species of cuttlefish found, which mostly live in the depth of 50-200m water. Cuttlefish are distributed from the north to the south of Vietnam.

Season: cuttlefish could be caught whole year round, however there are peak months as belows:

- Northern season in January, February, March and April

- Southern season from June to September

 

Catching method: Hook and line, luring lift net, trawl, lift net, trap – local name.
